Qualcomm Foundation is a science-fiction video game built to run across four kinds of devices: augmented reality, virtual reality, mobile and desktop. The same game, and the same players, had to make sense on every one of them.
That was the core design challenge. A mobile screen is held at arm’s length and driven by thumbs; a desktop has a mouse, a keyboard and a lot of room; in VR the interface has to live in 3D space around the player; in AR it shares the view with the real room. A UI that works on one of these breaks on the others.
We designed a dedicated UI for each platform, with layouts, scale, depth and input adapted to how each device is actually used, while keeping one visual language, one set of icons and one information hierarchy so the game still read as a single product. We designed the UI/UX and graphics and built them in Unreal Engine.
